PROPOSAL

University of Queensland Indonesian Student Association (UQISA)

1. Background

UQISA seeks funding support for a marketing activity to support UQ in attracting Indonesian students to study at undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at UQ. We are convinced that Indonesian students would benefit from studying at UQ since UQ is well-known as a high quality tertiary education and research institute. Although UQ has international reputation across discipline areas of interest, at this stage, Indonesian students tend to enrol at other Universities such as the University of Melbourne, QUT, Flinders, etc.

The impetus for this funding is:

  1. Many prospective Indonesian students and parents seek advice and assurance from individual UQISA members about studying at UQ and living in Brisbane.
  2. UQ does not directly market in many areas in Indonesia to answer these questions.

To resolve these issues, we propose to create resources that will answer common questions and provide ongoing support to students at UQ. Two strategies are proposed:

1. To market to prospective Indonesian students who are seeking tertiary education in Australia trough a website.

2. To enhance the students experience and thus enhance UQ’s reputation, via an induction program for a new arrival and on on-going newsletter.

Our target groups are:

A greater proportion of the 600 ADS/APS students who are going to student at Australian universities.

University of Indonesia: Twinning Program

Full fee-paying independent student.

UQISA is in a position to penetrate the Indonesian student market more efficiently and effectively because (1) we have strong Indonesian student community including access to the alumni; (2) we know the local market; and (3) we have strong personal networks. Therefore, we seek funding to develop a strategy for attracting Indonesian students to UQ in collaboration with the UQ International Marketing division.

2. Summary of Project
